Biodynamics III - The Indestructible Drop

Craniosacral therapy is a whole-body approach to healthcare. While the early explorers in the work focused primarily on our core skeletal structure and its neighboring components, modern understanding has moved us into the realm of the continuous fluid matrix and all it encompasses. An emerging paradigm in craniosacral work is direct therapeutic interaction with the cardiovascular system.

It was once believed that changes in cardiovascular dynamics seen during cst sessions were just secondary effects from changes occurring in the nervous system. But our current understanding of embryology and early metabolic fields provides the therapist tools for directly interacting with tissue and fluid dynamics in blood vessels and the heart itself. This class takes a closer look at the mental technology and palpation skills needed to interact in a focused manner with blood in its entirety.

In the Kadampa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, the energetic center of the heart is seen as a drop of fluid essence, also known as the “Indestructible Drop” - a name that speaks to its power in the human experience and also to the difficulty sometimes faced as we unfold its mysteries through spiritual practice. In this class we explore cross-cultural views of the heart as a spiritual gateway.

Key topics: cardiovascular embryology, early metabolic fields, heart health and pathology, historical medical understanding of the heart, the role of the heart in spiritual practices from around the world.
